Community Conversations

Community Conversations is intended to be a forum for members of the parish and the community to tackle issues which are relevant, of concern and/ or interesting.  Each forum features a panel of local experts who address the issue from their perspective. There is always time allowed for questions and discussion.

 

Our first Community Conversation focused on bullying.  A panel of local experts identified many types of bullying (including elder abuse) and described ways of dealing with it. 

 

The second Community Conversation focused on Alzheimer’s Disease, and even included caring for the care-givers.  Again we invited the community to come hear from the panel of experts that included a local lawyer who specializes in elder law, a physician, a social worker, and the director of the local nursing home.

 

Future forums are driven by community need and could focus on topics such as:

• early childcare and preschool opportunities

• environmental care

• the opioid crisis

• programs to support people with disabilities,

• childcare guidelines

• social service support resources for parents

• financial planning for young people

• making ends meet.
