              Children at Grace:

              Picture
Children are an important part of life at Grace.  We need their exuberance to get us moving and their curiosity to keep us wondering.  We strive to be a place where young people are embraced and celebrated as part of God’s great family.

              Children at Worship:
Children are always welcome in the sanctuary during worship.  We want them to see the colors, hear the music and taste the flavors of our time together.  We have a children’s corner in the rear of the curch where fidgety children can calm down with a toy, a storybook or a cuddle in one of our rocking chairs.

Children who have made their Solemn Communion (usually 8 and up) are expected to participate in the service of Holy Eucharist after Sunday School.  Young people are welcome to be ushers, readers, musicians or to serve at the altar as Acolytes.  Younger children may choose to attend Children’s Chapel for Bible stories and songs after Sunday School.  They will be reunite with their families in the church about halfway through the service.

              Children Learning
Children in pre-school through 5th grade participate in a Sunday School Curriculum called Godly Play.  Based in the Montessori Tradition, Godly Play lets children enter into the stories of our faith in and intimate, tactile and playful way.

Starting in January 2012, middle school students will have a new curriculum called TeenText.  This curriculum combines the upcoming Sunday’s readings, historical perspective, clips from popular media and the students’ own reflections on the passages.  When they hear those readings again from the pews, they’ll appreciate them in a new, personal way.

              Children and the Eucharist
The Episcopal Church recognizes the Holy Eucharist as the one of the two main sacraments of the church.  All are welcome to partake, even the youngest child.  When children are in 3rd grade, they are invited to participate in a service of Solemn Communion.  In preparation for this service they meet to explore the Eucharist further, even baking a batch of our honey wheat communion bread!  When the day comes, the children wear their best clothes and we join in celebration with them as they take the bread and wine with a new found understanding of the mysteries of Christ’s Love.
